Project Manager

Green Fuels Research is an innovation company in renewable fuels and bioenergy, carrying out research on several projects in collaboration with universities and partners worldwide. The companies are based at the Gloucestershire Science & Technology Park in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, and with offices in central London.

Main purpose of the job

Coordinate research and engineering projects; including scheduling, budgeting and resource management including internal staff and contractors.

Key responsibilities

  • Planning and scheduling of projects (including laboratory research, engineering manufacturing, site engineering)
  • Resource coordination including internal staff and external contractors
  • Budget tracking and forecasting
  • Project reporting and reconciliation

Required skills

  • Experience in project management in science or engineering, with exposure to PRINCE 2 or similar methodology an advantage
  • Understanding of scheduling principles including critical path analysis
  • Strong IT skills, advanced level user of Microsoft Project and Excel
  • Numeracy and literacy, reliable in handling numbers and fluent in reporting
  • Good communication and diplomacy skills, with experience dealing with international partners an advantage

This is a permanent full-time position based in Berkeley. We are open to discussing reduced hours, job share arrangements and flexible working.

Research Scientist (Microbiology/Biotechnology)

Main purpose of the job

Carry out scientific research on projects related to renewable fuels and bioenergy, with particular focus on microbiology involving a range of cultured species

Key responsibilities

  • Planning, execution and reporting of scientific experiments, with specific focus on microbiology/industrial biotechnology
  • Adherence to project deadlines and deliverables
  • Observance of good laboratory practice and health and safety procedures

Required skills

  • Experience of carrying out scientific research (to PhD level or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in planning and conducting experiments to the highest scientific standards
  • Ability to analyse data using standard scientific statistical methods
  • Track record in working effectively with other members of a team including research peers, supervisor and technical staff
  • Comfortable and confident planning and carrying out day-to-day research independently
  • Competent user of Excel, Word, PowerPoint (advanced level preferred)
  • Comfortable presenting work to colleagues and others
  • This role requires experience in applied microbiology (fermentation, culture maintenance, etc). Experience with anaerobic organisms is a necessity; experience with oleaginous aerobes and/or microalgae an advantage

Administrator (Finance and Office)

Main purpose of the job

Day-to-day accounting tasks and general office administration

Key responsibilities
Day to day administration of purchase ledger including coding and posting of supplier invoices/credit notes to Xero and preparation of payment schedules
Office support including diary management for Directors, travel bookings, management of expense claims and some facilities management tasks
Required skills
Organisational ability: able to keep track of multiple tasks and to balance requests from multiple sources, logical and reliable in filing and retrieving information in electronic and paper locations
Discretion and integrity: able to be trusted in handling confidential information relating to the company and its staff
Numeracy: capable of reliably and accurately handling financial data and with a working understanding of core finance concepts
Experience in entering purchase ledger information to accounting software (Xero preferred)
Professionalism in communication internally and externally
Ability to empathise and work with others with differing priorities and to diplomatically achieve goals without frustration or unnecessary conflict
